A lot of other things that feel pleasant to the body during the winters such as sitting by the fireplace or taking shower with hot water actually worsens the skin’s condition. When these problems are minor, one can overcome these easily. But in some other cases, the condition of the skin worsens. 

People try a lot of things to get rid of the itchiness and rashes during the winters but most of these treatments either fail or provide only temporary relief. People spend a lot on expensive cosmetics but still don’t get the desired results. This is because most of us fault to reach to the root of the skin related problems during the winters. The effect of winter on our skin is very different from traditional skin related problems and hence, the solution should also be different. Shower In Lukewarm Water

Bathing in hot water feels heavenly during the winters but it leaves your skin dry and it may lead to other problems like redness or itching. Instead of bathing in very hot water, you should bath in lukewarm water. Also, it will be better if you reduce your shower time to 5 to 10 minutes during the winters. Avoid the use of hot water while washing your hands or face. When your skin comes in contact with very hot water, it turns red which can be very irritating. Use of a hairdryer should also be limited during the winters.

Using a gentle soap

It is understandable that you want a soap that has a very rich fragrance but your focus should be on selecting a soap that doesn’t damage your sensitive skin. Use of fragrance-free soap is advisable during the winters. You can also ditch soap for a shower gel that contains conditioner. No matter how light your soap is,it will add to the dryness of the skin. During the winters, you can avoid using soap daily. Use soap only when necessary.

Use of Moisturiser

Whether you are at home, in the office or elsewhere, you must have a moisturiser with you during the winters. You should apply moisturiser on your skin at regular intervals. Those marts that are exposed to open air directly, such as your hands and your face, should be moisturised more often. Apply a moisturizing cream on your hands every time you wash them.

Using Sunscreen

Sunscreen is not just to prevent your skin against the harmful sun rays. Regular use of sunscreen can do wonders to your skin. One common perception is that sun rays can cause harm to your skin only during a bright sunny day. Wrong. Your skin becomes more sensitive and vulnerable during the winters. Sun Rays can penetrate through the winter fog or clouds to cause harm to your skin. That is why you should always apply sunscreen whenever you go out. An SPF 15 or higher is recommendable.

Eating Right

Your body is what you eat. The fact remains the same irrespective of the season and the weather. Make sure you eat foods containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Do not forget to add fish oil to your diet. Eat fruits that have rich water quantity. Vitamin C rich fruits such as Orange are also great for your skin. You consume less water in winters in comparison to summers. You should compensate for that by eating fruits regularly. Lack of water can also make your skin dry.

Avoid Wearing Wet Clothes

Wearing wet clothes or wet shoes during the winters can also make your skin itchy and this can be really irritating. That is why winter rains are not considered good. Wearing wet clothes, socks or gloves can increase your discomfort level. If your clothes get wet anyhow, make sure you change them as soon as possible. Apply a good moisturiser afterwards to avoid rashes or itchiness. 

Choosing Right Face Cream

Winters are very different from the summers. What works for summers won’t work for the winters. Many face creams contain alcohol and other chemicals. Such creams might work during the summers but during the winters, these creams may further dry your skin. Do not shy away from investing in a good winter face cream. You can also use petroleum jelly or any other ointment if your skin is very dry. Select a cream that has rich amounts of moisturiser.
