Filmmaking is an intricate art, an ocean of opportunities that brings together various streams of art under one umbrella. Bringing together writers, actors, engineers, singers, and many such people to create one beautiful visual, filmmaking has offered a lot to this world. Yet in this fiesta of endless arts and artists, some aspects of this highly complicated skill are left hidden. It is tough to look past what the camera is making one see. We can see directors, actors, singers are visible to the audience but there are a few crew members whose contribution is often forgotten. There are some facets of a film we will often fail to notice.

Baby Wrangler

Yes, there are specialists to make babies cry and laugh on cue. There are handlers on set to ensure that baby actors can serve their purpose. There are many limitations to the working hours and conditions of babies. They act as an interpreter between baby actors and the director. Their assistance in films is remarkable. Without a specialist, there any film with a baby on set will become incredibly tricky to shoot. Elaine Hall is one of the most popular baby wranglers in Hollywood.

Language Creators

A language creator is not even considered a complete job.  Dothraki of Games of Thrones or Nai’vi from The Avatar, are all languages constructed for the movies specifically. Language creators like David Peterson and Dr Paul Frommer are approached for these jobs. They add to the fantastical approach of any film or TV series. It would not be very believable if aliens spoke fluent English instead of a separate language.

Food Stylist

Sue Townsend worked on the sets of Game of Throne creating appealing food visuals that are appropriate for a world that is unlike our own. Food Stylists design edible products in a way that is both suitable for the theme and adds to the overall visual. Films like Harry Potter, Midsommar, the Chef, and Ratatouille had an extensive use for food stylists. We might often fail to see but the food stylists have immense work in creating a feast for the eyes.

Intimacy Coordinator

Intimacy Coordinator

An intimacy coordinator is responsible for the well being of actors who participate in intimate scenes on screen. Ita O’Brien helped the coordination of intimate scenes on the sets of sex education. She has been credited with changing the way Hollywood approaches nudity and intimacy. Their job involves evolving healthy practices for actors and the crew to make sure that the filming goes comfortably and also suitable for screen and visuals.

Filmmaking is a golden world; it has proved before that it has space for all talents. However, we as an audience sometimes fail to notice the hard work that is put into it by crew members and behind the scene members. We must remember that a lot goes into film and filmmaking even if the people involved in it often remain unnamed. Their service is an example of how art often brings together talents and skills in unconventional ways.
