Grandmother's House

When air travel and overseas vacations were not common, our mothers would take the family off to our grandparents' homes for some serious pampering.

There are a lot of mangoes.

Boxes of mangoes poured in as the calendar moved from April to May. Before, during, and after meals, the entire family would sit and eat together.

Family vacations to hill stations

Summer vacations have always been connected with travel and family togetherness. Those train travels with one-too-many luggage, cumbersome bedding, and copious amounts of food were thrilling.

Reading Comics and Books

Time away from schoolbooks meant more reading (for some students!). Fun, adventurous, fictional books that took us over the world and back.

No Restrictions on watching tv

During the summer holidays, there were no limitations on watching television. Kids could sit and watch it all day. Unlike today, kids in the 1990s were fortunate to enjoy truly entertaining cartoons.
