One of the most important holidays for Punjabis is Lohri. People make a big deal out of celebrating this day. With friends, family, and other relatives, they enjoy bonfires.
However, the celebration would be incomplete without some delectable, traditional specialties like “gur ki gajak,” “atta laddoo,” “murmura laddoo,” “til ki barfi,” dry fruit chikki, “gur ka halwa,” “til ki revdi,” and other such delectable dishes.
Makki Ki Roti & Sarso Ka Saag
In Lohri thali, Sarso Da Saag and Makki Di Roti are an absolute must-have combo. This aromatic dish is a must-try. It is made with freshly ground corn and enhanced with grated radish, radish leaves, coriander leaves, chopped green chilies and lots of white butter.
Gajar ka halwa
“Gajar Ka Halwa” is among the most delectable desserts to have during the winter. This delicious dish, which is made with milk and red carrots and enhanced with a lot of ghee and butter, khoya, chopped nuts, and almonds, is a must-have during the Lohri festival.
Packed with cashews, almonds, and raisins, these pinnis are a must-have for any platter. They are made with wheat flour, chopped almonds, pure ghee, and edible gum (typically made with melted jaggery).
Crispy Pakode
Pakodes are a must-have starter for Lohri 2023. They are made of various vegetables, including onion, potato, and cauliflower. The florets are spiced, dipped in gramme flour batter, and fried until crispy and golden brown. They are then served with chutney or ketchup.

Dahi Bhalle
Dunked into sour yoghurt, the soft yet crisp dumplings made with Urad daal are accompanied by pomegranate seeds, red chilli powder, and roasted cumin powder.
Chikki
Nibbling jaggery and crunchy peanuts combine to create one of the most popular Lohri snacks. Beyond the ubiquitous groundnut variety, there exist multiple other types of chikkis. Similar to til ki chikki, or dry fruits chikki, which has brittle jaggery with a sugary base and chunky nuts like cashews, almonds, and pistachios embedded in it.
