The government on Thursday created an app to distribute real-time information on the flood situation in impacted areas due to an increase in flood-related occurrences throughout the nation, including loss of life and property.

According to Central Water Commission (CWC) Chairperson Kushvinder Vohra, the ‘FloodWatch’ app will gather information from 338 stations and transmit real-time flood updates to 23 states and Union Territories.

He stated that the app provides precise and quick flood forecasts by utilizing cutting-edge technology like satellite data processing, mathematical modeling, and real-time monitoring.

The user-friendly UI of the app will make it simple for everyone to keep informed and reduce risk during flood occurrences, according to Vohra.

According to the CWC director, “FloodWatch” will distribute written and audio alarm messages and flood forecasts.

According to Vohra, the app will soon offer updates in additional regional languages in addition to the present English and Hindi versions.

However, the CWC’s internally developed app has not yet connected with flood-stricken Himachal Pradesh; it will do so within six months, he noted.
