The human brain is one hell of a complicated space where one can drown in the ocean of self-doubt and insecurities. A couple of setbacks in life can lead you to a mental space where nothing seems right and everything appears as if it’s falling apart. But hey! Remember Rancho from 3 idiots, the guy who asked his friends to make their mind believe that “All Izz Well” at the time of crisis? Well, this might look like very imprudent advice, obviously because just thinking that “all’s good” will not make life better in any way. Unfortunately, you can’t entirely control the things that happen in both professional and personal life. However, what you can do is be in charge of the things that you can control. This will create a sense of power.
In case you’re in a similar situation and are desperately looking out for the rescue then keep reading. I’ve gathered a few tips and habits, which will give you the command over your life and motivate you even during the most trying of times, plus will keep away from anxiety.
1. Follow a morning routine
No, I’ll not ask you to do yoga or eat healthy! All you need to do is fold that goddamn quilt/blanket as soon as you wake up. By making your bed right after getting up eliminates the chances of procrastination and you get your very first feeling of accomplishment. If you’re a person who works from home and don’t go out daily then you need to fight one more battle, i.e., to bath or not. I know it is a difficult decision to make but trust me I have felt the difference in my productivity on the days when I bathe. Then finally when you’ll be done with all the mandatory tasks you’ll be all set to actually take care of your to-do list of the day.
2. Give yourself a target
Remember that day when you were loaded with work but you got hooked on Netflix? Yeah! We all have had such days. It happens on a daily basis as our concentration level has become equals to that of a 10-year-old, all thanks to social media. To not get trapped in the scrolling game you need to set a target. For example: if you’re writing a book then give yourself a target like “I’ll watch the next episode of Marvellous Mrs. Maisel only after writing 20 pages.” This will really get you going. You can also put your phone on airplane mode to avoid distractions while working on a ppt, blog or video. You’ll be nothing but proud of yourself after achieving the target, and your mood will improve once you will begin crossing off items on the to-do-list.
3. Put it on the paper
Trying too hard to remember that brilliant idea which you conceived in the metro? We often do this mistake when we come up with innovative ideas; instead of jotting it down we trust our memory. Well for starters we shouldn’t because you never know which idea might make you rich. There are many apps where you can jot down your thoughts, or you can do it old fashion way as well by using a pen and notepad. Trust me one day when you’ll become rich because you remembered to write your idea, you’ll thank me.
4. Don’t live in clutter
Do you know that our living environment is a direct manifestation of our inner state? Look around your room or work desk, and if it is cluttered then there’s no way that your mind will find peace anytime soon. So wake up those genes that you got from your mother and organize the place. This will clear your mind and release the external pressure.
5. Take care of a living thing
I’m not asking to get pregnant! A living being can be anything, like if you’re a cat or dog lover then you can adopt one. And if you’re neither, or worse, if you are afraid of huge responsibilities then just look after a plant (and try not to kill it). You’ll be surprised to see your motherly instinct kicking off (regardless of the gender). Plus taking care of something other than yourself teaches you compassion, patience and time management. It’s mainly the joy of watching something grow and the fact that you’re somewhat involved makes it extremely rewarding.
6. Get rid of what you don’t need
Remember that item you bought and ended up not liking it. But you kept the item out of guilt of spending. Let’s face it, you’ll never use it, and various other items that you possess but never really use. So you can start with segregating things on the basis of when was the last time you used it, whether it’s a pair of jeans, a gadget, accessory and in special cases stuff toys. If the date is not within the past 6 months then it’s time to get rid of those things and pass it on to the person who might need them. This will only leave you with things that truly matter in your life and provide a clearer vision of life with less burden.
