Delhi is the most polluted city in the world, according to the AQLI, and its 18 million residents will lose an average of 11.9 years of life expectancy relative to the WHO limit and 8.5 years compared to the national standard if pollution levels stay the same.

Delhi is the most polluted city in the world, and its residents stand to lose 11.9 years of life if pollution levels stay the same, according to recent research.

According to the Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) produced by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, all of India’s 1.3 billion people live in places where the yearly average particle pollution level surpasses the World Health Organization (WHO) limit of 5 Î14g/m3.

Delhi is the most polluted city in the world, according to the AQLI, and its 18 million residents will lose an average of 11.9 years of life expectancy relative to the WHO limit and 8.5 years compared to the national standard if pollution levels stay the same.

”Even in the least contaminated area in the region, Pathankot in Punjab, particle pollution is more than seven times the WHO limit, reducing life expectancy by 3.1 years if current levels are maintained,” it said.

Though geology and meteorological variables worsen particle pollution in the northern plains, the AQLI’s dust and sea salt-removed PM 2.5 data suggest that human activity is a major contributor to severe particulate pollution.
