Bridges with a deck height of at least 200 meters are included in this list of highest bridges (660 ft). A bridge’s deck height is the overall vertical drop distance between the bridge deck (a bridge’s lane, rail, or other transport bed) and the surface of the ground or water underneath the bridge span.

The height of the deck is different from the height of the frame, which is the calculation of the highest vertical distance from the uppermost section of the bridge, such as from the top of the bridge tower to the lower exposed part of the bridge, where the piers arise from the ground or water surface.

On the border between the provinces of Guizhou and Yunnan, the Duge Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge. The bridge is the highest in the world as of 2016, with the road deck sitting over 565 meters (1,850 feet) above the Beipan River. The bridge is part of the Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway G56 between Qujing and Liupanshui. The eastern tower is 269 m (883 ft) tall, making it one of the world’s tallest.

Between Xuanwei City, Yunnan, and Shuicheng County, Guizhou, the bridge spans 1,340 m (4,400 ft) and shortens the journey between the two locations from about a five-hour drive to about an hour.

The Sidu River Bridge is a 1,222 m (4,009 ft) long suspension bridge that crosses the Sidu River valley near Yesanguan in the People’s Republic of China’s Badong County of Hubei Province. CCSHCC Second Highway Consultants Firm, Limited, constructed the bridge. It was designed at a cost of 720 million yuan (approximately US$100 million). On November 15, 2009, it opened to traffic.

The bridge forms part of the modern G50 Huyu Expressway, which runs parallel to China National Highway 318, an east-west route between Shanghai and Chongqing, which crosses the large belt of mountains separating the Sichuan Basin from the eastern Hubei lowlands. 50 km (31 mi) to the north, the Yangtze River pierces the same mountain belt, creating the famous Three Gorges. Completed in 2010 and running parallel to the highway, the Yiwan Railway has been identified as China’s most difficult and costly railway line (per km) to construct.

The bridge spans a 500-meter-deep (1,600 ft) Sidu River valley (a left tributary of the Qingjiang River), replacing the Royal Gorge Bridge and the Guanxing Highway Bridge of the Beipan River as the world’s highest bridge before the Duge Bridge was in turn surpassed in 2016.

A suspension bridge near Xuanwei, Qujing, China, is the Puli Bridge. The bridge is one of the highest in the world at 485 m (1,591 ft). The bridge forms part of the G56 Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway between Liupanshui and Xuanwei and was opened in August 2015. The bridge and associated expressway shortened the travel time from four hours to one hour from Xuanwei to the Guizhou border. The bridge crosses a small stream next to the Nexia.

The main span of the Puli Bridge is 628 meters (2,060 feet) and has a total length of 1,040 meters (3,410 feet). The road deck is 80 feet wide (24.5 meters) and the main suspension cables are 85 feet (26 meters) apart. The bridge cost 440 million yuan (approximately 71 million US dollars). The first cable used to erect the span (the pilot cable) was laid using a rocket, similar to the Sidu River Bridge.

In Guizhou, China, the Yachi River Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge. The bridge is the world’s fourth-tallest. It is also one of the longest cable-stayed bridges with an 800 m main span (2,600 ft). The western tower is 258.2 m (847 ft) and ranks among the world’s tallest bridges. The eastern tower is 798 ft (243.2 m). The bridge between Qianxi County in Bijie and Qingzhen in Guiyang crosses the Yachi River. On the Guiyang to Qianxi Expressway, the bridge carries traffic.

Although the Yachi River Bridge is officially 440 meters long, the bridge spans the Dongfeng Dam reservoir, so it is 306 m (1,004 ft) above the water level.

QUINGSHUI RIVER BRIDGE

A suspension bridge in Guizhou, China is the Qingshui River Bridge (Qingshuihe Bridge). The bridge is the third-highest suspension bridge in the world, spanning 406 m (1,332 ft) over the Qingshuihe River.[1][2] It is also one of the longest bridges, with a main span of 1,130 m (3,710 ft).

The suspension bridge’s two towers are 230 m (750 ft) and 224 m (735 ft) tall. For deck support and stiffening, the main span uses a steel truss.

The Guiweng Expressway is part of the bridge. The bridge cost ¥1.54 billion (£158 million). The bridge has been designed to boost transportation in the area and will shorten the distance from 160 km to 38 km between Weng’an County and Guiyang. On December 31, 2015, the bridge opened for traffic.
