HISTORY OF GUJARAT
Gujarat traces its history back to the Indus Valley Civilization. The region witnessed the ruling period of various dynasties such as Mauryas, Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Guptas, Rashtrakutas, Palas, and Gurjara-Pratiharas. But in the 13th century, Gujarat witnessed the end of Hindu powers when Alauddin Khilji came into power. In the 16th century, the Mughal Emperor Akbar conquered the region, and hence the state came under the Mughal Empire. This was followed by the Maratha rule until 1802, when the British East India Company captured Gujarat and retained their control on the region until India’s Independence, i.e., 1947.
