One of the largest venues for recognizing some of the best cinematic work is the Academy Awards. The number of Indian films that have received Oscar nominations is not very long. The Gujarati film “The Chhello Show” has been named as India’s official submission for the Oscars in 2023, but the final nomination has not yet been revealed.

To recognize the effort and the effect that the film has on the audience, Indian films are nominated for Oscars in the category of “Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.”

The second Indian film to receive an Oscar nomination was Salaam Bombay, a 1988 Indian drama film directed by Mira Nair. Hello, Bombay. The film shows a day in the life of a child living in a Mumbai slum. The attitude and way of life of Bombay’s street kids served as inspiration for the movie. In the late Victorian era of the Colonial British Raj in India, where Lagaan is set, the villagers’ residents suffer from high taxes and several years of drought. Adventure-drama movie Life of Pi, from 2012, was written by David Magee and directed by Ang Lee. The film, which features Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Rafe Spall, Tabu, and Adil Hussain in the lead roles, is based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel of the same name. Two shipwreck survivors are at the center of the narrative. A 1982 period biographical film titled Gandhi is based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi, who led the nonviolent, non-cooperative Indian independence movement against the British Empire. It is a co-production between India and the UK, with Richard Attenborough serving as both producer and director. John Briley wrote the screenplay. Ben Kingsley plays the title character in it. The movie follows Gandhi’s life from a pivotal event in 1893, when he is expelled from a South African train for riding in a whites-only section, to his death and funeral in 1948. Gandhi, a practicing Hindu, is shown to have accepted other religions, especially Christianity and Islam.
