Following an IT error that allowed consumers to withdraw money they did not have in their accounts, the Bank of Ireland has apologized.

According to reports, some consumers received €1,000 without explanation, which caused lines to build at the cash registers.

The bank stated, “We are aware that due to the technical issue, certain customers were able to execute withdrawals or transfer funds in excess of their customary limits.”

The bank’s mobile application and Internet banking services were also unavailable as a result of the technical problem.
