Vegetable thali prices increased to Rs 33.7 in July from Rs 26.3 in June in part due to a 233% increase in tomato costs to Rs 110 per kg.
According to the statistics, the increase was most pronounced in the most recent month (July 2023) with the price of vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis jumping by 34% and 13% on-month, respectively.
The household budget of any family can be destroyed by inflation or the increase in the cost of commodities, particularly food and home goods. The cost of all vegetables has recently increased, especially tomatoes, onions, and chilies, as a result of excessive rainfall in the states and regions that produce these crops. This has thrown off the budget of the average household. According to a recent study by consulting company Crisil, the price of a vegetarian thali has increased in Indian families from Rs 24.4 to Rs 37.7 and the price of a non-vegetarian thali has increased from Rs 55.6 to Rs 66.8 during the last 17 months or so.
According to the statistics, the increase was most pronounced in the most recent month (July 2023) with the price of vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis jumping by 34% and 13% on-month, respectively.
The average cost of cooking a thali at home has been computed based on input costs currently in effect in north, south, east, and west India, according to Crisil, who discussed the approach. The monthly change also reflects the effect on the average person’s spending. The information also identifies the components (cereals, pulses, broilers, vegetables, spices, edible oil, cooking gas) that have been responsible for fluctuations in thali prices.

The figures in the following table represent the price of making a thali at home, according to Crisil. Notably, the company claims that this is not the thali’s retail price, which also includes overhead costs, employee costs, and profit margins, but rather the price of one made at home.
Roti, veggies (onion, tomato, and potato), rice, dal, curd, and salad make up a vegetarian thali. In addition, chicken has been explored as an alternative to dal for a non-vegetarian thali (estimated grill pricing for July 2023).
