Prime Minister Narendra Modi disclosed the names of two significant lunar landing sites at a ceremony honoring the historic Chandrayaan-3 expedition. These names refer to the locations of the successful Chandrayaan-3 landing and the tragic crash landing of Chandrayaan-2.

Following PM Modi’s recent trip to Bengaluru’s ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network Mission Control Complex, where he officially unveiled “Shivshakti Point” and “Tiranga Point” as the names for these locations, the announcement was made.

When Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the Moon’s South Pole in August 2023, the place will be known as “Shivshakti Point,” whereas the spot where Chandrayaan-2 tragically crashed in 2019 will now be known as “Tiranga Point.”

In addition, Prime Minister Modi said that India will observe August 23 as National Space Day in honor of Chandrayaan-3’s landing. This choice represents an outstanding accomplishment in the field of space exploration.

Shivshakti

The phrase “Shivshakti” originates in Hindu mythology, which is whence the name was chosen. In his justification for choosing “Shivshakti” as the name of the touchdown site, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the innate relationship between humanitarian tenacity and the notion of Shiva.

He emphasized that these humanitarian goals may be realized because of Shakti. The “Shakti” part of “Shiv Shakti” pays homage to the perseverance, motivation, and empowerment of female scientists.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that “Shivshakti Point” is more than simply a moniker; it is a source of inspiration for the next generations. The profundity of this title’s message is that science’s potential may be used to advance human well-being.

Women Empowerment

The Prime Minister claims that the name “Shivshakti” honors the contribution of female scientists to the Chandrayaan-3 project. The fact that PM Modi recognized their vital contributions is a strong validation of the growing number of women working in science and technology.

By successfully directing the Chandrayaan-3 lander module to a successful touchdown on the Moon’s South Pole, India made a huge scientific advancement. This accomplishment ended the earlier delay caused by the Chandrayaan-2 crash landing four years ago, making India the first country to reach this historic milestone.

With this accomplishment, India is now officially the fourth country—along with the United States, China, and Russia—to successfully land a spacecraft on the moon’s surface.
