With almost every other person posting pictures from the hill towns of Shimla, Mandi and Chambal, the major tourist destinations have witnessed a huge influx of tourists from all parts of the country since the end of almost a year-long lockdown. People travel from big cities to the hills or beaches in search of peace, solitude, calmness and peace, but these purposes take a backseat with such huge crowds in these places. What’s the solution? A lot of people see the solution in ditching the peak seasons and travelling there during off-seasons. But what’s a Himalayan holiday destination without a chilling winter and snowfall.

We have found a better option to enjoy a peaceful holiday in some of the most beautiful places that offer similar experiences with less crowd. There are several less discovered places in India that are equally good and beg to be discovered. The benefit of living in such a huge country is that there is no dearth of places to explore and enhance your travel experience. You can travel to 10 places and there will still be 20 more places left to be explored. That’s the benefit of living in a diverse country. We’ve compiled a list of 7 such places that remain unexplored.

Phugtal Gompa, Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir is not only known for snowfall, the Dal Lake and hilltop towns. Phugtal Gompa is a very remote monastery located in the region. It is one of the most unique and remotest monasteries on the continent. The real thrill lies in the journey and not the destination as there’s no road connecting these monasteries from the main city or town. You’ll need to trek your way up to this monastery. The scenic view of the Tsarap river from the top of mountains will surely be worth your experience.

Chopta, Uttarakhand

Chopta might not be the first place you think of while thinking of Uttarakhand but it is certainly one of the most unique holiday destinations in the state. The snow-capped Himalayan peak emerging amid the majestic view from lush green forests gives Chopta a unique look. You won’t find any crowd to spoil your calm holiday and you can simply gaze at the unending charm of the town guarded by towering trees and series of mountains.

Kanatal, Uttarakhand

There’s no dearth of places worth visiting in Uttarakhand that one can not spot the first time they visit the state as most of them sit comfortably between several valleys. Kanatal is one such pretty town located just 80 km away from Dehradun. It is a picture-perfect destination for couples. The terrace stays in the magnificent hamlet are the highlight of the place. It is surely one of the least explored places in the state.

Damro, Arunachal Pradesh

You can find hundreds of unexplored places in Arunachal Pradesh as the state is not much explored in itself. Arunachal is famous for its hanging bridges and the longest hanging bridge in the state is in Damro. Bamboo houses, suspension bridges and vast grasslands give the village a unique appearance. The locals in Damro are very welcoming and you can enjoy a very relaxing holiday in the village.

Mawlynnong, Meghalaya

Mawlynnong has brought several laurels to the country as it has earned the title of the Cleanest Village in Asia. Cleanliness and organised streets are integral to the culture of the village. Anyone found littering or spitting in public is heavily fined. In the first look, the village would give you an impression of a quaint town with polished streets and spotless homes. People here are educated enough to keep organic and inorganic waste separate. It remains a less explored village.

Jawai, Rajasthan

Rajasthan is not just about gigantic forts, endless desert and traditional sweets. Jawai is a popular leopard camp in Rajasthan. If you have ever dreamt of camping in the middle of nowhere like the kings used to do in the old days, Jawai is the place to visit. Living in tents, having just lamps as a source of light and having access to traditional Rajasthani cuisine is a luxury in terms of experience. You can spot leopards, sloth bears and different migratory birds while in Jawai.

Mainpat, Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh is not the first preference for travel lovers not because it doesn’t have good places because most of them are not well explored. Dharamshala is not the only Tibetan settlement in India. Mainpat is an unexplored destination in Chattisgarh that is known for its games of Tibetan style temples. It is also the home to Thakpo Shedupling Monastery in 1970. There are several wall murals and waterfalls in the region that add to the beauty of the place. Parpatiya Sunset Point is the highlight of the place.
