Love to Hate You is the newest romantic comedy K-drama to launch on Netflix on February 10, 2023. The narrative revolves around a lady who dislikes every male she encounters and a man who has profound misgivings about women, as directed by Kim Jung-Kwon. Eventually, the fierce competition evolves into a lovely friendship.
Starring in the key roles are Kim Ok-Vin as Yeo Mi-ran and Teo Yoo as Nam Kang-ho, as well as Kim Ji-hoon as Do Won-jun, Go Won-hee as Shin Na-eun, Lee Joo-bin as Oh Se-na, Song Ji-woo as Hwang Ji-ye, Kim Sung-Ryung, and others. It’s a hackneyed enemies-to-lovers premise, and the story is predictable, but it doesn’t diminish how well it’s performed. The series begins by introducing the main protagonists and their bad experiences with the opposite sexes, which have caused them to have preconceived and generalized ideas about the people around them. They refuse to open out because they are afraid of being harmed again.
Mi-animosity ran’s for males derived from witnessing her father’s disdain for his wife at an early age. Growing up, she unknowingly cultivates hostility towards males and works to become self-sufficient in every way. Kang-ho, on the other hand, develops an anxiety problem as a result of a terrible break-up, making it impossible for him to establish partnerships.
However, the polar opposite persons happen to cross paths and wind up spending more time with each other than they expected. The plot easily transitions from a lighthearted enjoyable comedy to an intense drama. The plot, on the other hand, is predictable and not out of the norm. It is a guilty pleasure and a desire for rom-coms that will keep one completely engrossed in the series.
Furthermore, most of the jokes will make you laugh, and the strong suspense will keep you on edge. The sentences are crisp, and each scene has enough depth to keep the program fascinating. Certain aspects of the presentation were properly elevated by the usage of sound effects.
The series’ main focus was feminist issues, although it lacked substance and followed the conventional patterns for portraying a “strong and self-sustaining” woman.
The main heroine is depicted to be “different” from the other women, which is an antiquated and ineffective approach to demonstrating female strength. In 2023, intentionally villainizing female characters is not the way to go.
Despite this, the romance more than makes up for the terrible story aspects. The drama would undoubtedly make single people yearn for a relationship. The anticipation, kissing sequences, and short eye contact will take your breath away. The clothing and style were flawless, as was the natural makeup, which highlighted the performers’ greatest attributes.
Kim Ok-Vin’s outstanding acting abilities stole the night. She gave a terrific performance that was appropriate for the character. The second lead syndrome happens when one cannot take their eyes off Kim Ji-hoon and his endearing presence on television. Other supporting performers were dedicated to their parts as well.
The series is exciting from start to finish, with few to no dull moments. The rom-com genre is finally returning, and the program will be perfect for Valentine’s Day viewing. If you’re looking for a series to binge-watch, this is a great choice.
