The Hollywood International Press Association has announced the Golden Globe Awards 2021 winners, which will air on February 28.
Today, the Hollywood International Press Association is revealing the 2021 Golden Globes nominees. As the timeframe for winners was extended as part of a broader effort to respond to how the pandemic has altered industry expectations, the nominations arrive later than average in this awards cycle. The ceremony is scheduled to air on February 28 and will be the first of the 2021 cycle’s main awards ceremonies. The Academy Awards were moved back to April 25, allowing room for the Golden Globes to claim the lead this year.
There are a few films and shows to be on the lookout for, considering the small number of releases in 2020. Streamers such as Netflix and Amazon are more than likely to lead the entertainment awards with a plethora of programming to choose from, namely Ozark, The Crown, and The Gambit of the Queen. With The Boys, the most successful new show to date, Amazon is still trying to slip in there. On the movie side, to see if her festival hit Nomadland makes it into the big categories, all eyes will be on Chloe Zhao.
Amazon’s One Night in Miami, directed by Regina King, Promising Young Lady, Netflix’s Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is other films to watch out for.
The entire list of nominees below can be read from. As expected, Talented Young Women and Nomadland had a good turnout. The Golden Globes has shocked the world in its Best Directing category this year – it is the first time in forever three women have been nominated together in classification and the first time a woman has been set in the class in 6 years.
The Mandalorian nomination for Best Drama Series is also an exciting addition, one that will definitely impress Disney +, as it is the first nomination for its original material by the streamer. Evidently, with the Netflix series likely to score awards in a couple of the acting categories, The Crown earned multiple nominations.
