The 2020 Game of the Year Awards, “The Last of Us Part II” won the night’s biggest draw.

Naughty Dog’s hit sequel received numerous other major awards during the night, including Laura Bailey’s best direction, plot, action/adventure game, audio design, and performance, in addition to the game of the year. “Final Fantasy VII Remake” (best score and sound, RPG), “Hades” (best independent title and action game), and Among Us” were other major winners (best multiplayer game and mobile game).

The 2020 ceremony was aired live from three in-studio, audience-less sites in Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo. In September, host Geoff Keighley spoke to Variety, saying they “would never normally be able to live in three cities,” which sparked the big-scale concept.

This is a year with unique situations, so let’s do it. Keighley said, “I think it sends a really great message, and I think it’s what I’d like to do more of.”

The program included musical contributions by Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and the London Philharmonic Orchestra as the Game of the Year Orchestra, as well as special guest appearances including Brie Larson, Tom Holland, Gal Gadot, JackSepticEye, John David Washington, Keanu Reeves, Nolan North, Reggie Fils-Aime, Josef Fares, Stephen A. Smith, Troy Baker, and Christopher Nolan, who announced the final trophy.

And as in previous years, there were also various fantastic revelations and unique performances at the ceremony. These included the inclusion of Sephiroth’s “Final Fantasy VII” as the new “Super Smash Bros.” Ultimate” fighter, the next “Dragon Age” tease, and a look at the latest map of Among Us.
