There are people in the world who have incredible heights and are well-known for their personality characteristics. A century after the birth of the tallest man ever, a legacy of record-breaking giants.
Here we will be providing you with the list of the 10 tallest men around the world for their traits.
1. Robert Wadlow – 8 ft 11 inches (2m 72cm)
“The Illinois Giant.” Wadlow is the tallest person approved to have ever lived, standing at 8 ft 11 in. He was born in Alton, Illinois, in 1918 and suffered from pituitary gland hypertrophy, which caused him to emit large quantities of human growth hormone.
Wadlow’s height grew steadily throughout his life as a result of this illness. He was 6 ft 2 in and weighed 169 lbs by eight (77 kg). The Illinois resident was so huge that a special desk in school had to be installed for him. At the time, doctors had no cure for this form of hormonal imbalance. Wadlow suffered from a variety of illnesses as a result of his unusual condition. Because of his weak bones, he had difficulty getting around his college campus and had to wear leg braces towards the end of his life. Also, he had no sensation in his feet.
In the end, a defective leg brace caused a blister that became infected during a professional appearance Wadlow made in Manistee, Michigan. In his sleep on July 15, 1940, he died after emergency surgery, and blood transfusions failed to save him. At the moment, he was just 22 years old. Over 30,000 people attended Wadlow’s funeral, and his massive body required twelve pallbearers.
2. Johan Rogan – 8ft 9 inches (2m 67cm)
John William “Bud” Rogan, at 8 ft 9 in, is the second tallest person in recorded history – and the tallest of African descent. Rogan, born in Tennessee in 1868, experienced a sudden growth spurt at 13 and quickly gained height.
Rogan’s extreme size caused him to suffer from serious ankylosis, which causes rigid joints due to inflammation. It was challenging for him to place his weight on his feet as a result of this. He could walk about with crutches at first, but by 1882, Rogan couldn’t stand or walk at all. He was often the focus of attention, and he has frequently pushed around in a goat cart he made himself.
Rogan’s illness made it difficult for him to work. Still, he made living selling pictures and postcards of himself at the local train station. He died in 1905 as a result of disease complications. He was buried under a sheet of concrete to prevent curious scientists from digging up his corpse. The African-American giant was not officially measured until his death. Despite standing just under nine feet tall, he weighed just 175 pounds.
3. John F. Carroll – 8 ft 7.5 inches (2 m 63 cm)
John Carroll, who was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1932, was dubbed the “Buffalo Giant” in medical journals. Carroll’s extraordinary growth spurt began when he was 16, and it continued until he died in 1969. He reportedly grew seven inches in months at one point.
Carroll had acromegalic gigantism and suffered greatly throughout his short life, especially with his spine: he had a severe case of two-dimensional spinal curvature, also known as kyphoscoliosis. In reality, Carroll’s spinal curvature was so serious that accurately measuring him was impossible.
Carroll was 7 ft 8.75 in tall at the time of his death in 1968. However, by this stage, his spinal curvature was so severe that it’s believed his corrected height was just under 9 feet.
4. Väinö Myllyrinne – 8 ft 3 inches (2 m 51 cm)
Väinö Myllyrinne was born in 1909 in Helsinki, Finland, and by the age of 21, he was 7 ft 3.4 in tall. Furthermore, in his late thirties, he experienced a second growth spurt, and by the time of his death in 1963, he was a towering 8 ft 3 in – much like Ken and Beaupre.
Myllyrinne was a member of the Finnish Defence Forces and is regarded as the tallest soldier to have ever existed. He was also called the twelfth greatest Finn by the local TV show Suuret Suomalaiset, owing mainly to a satirical tongue-in-cheek Internet campaign.
The Finnish colossus had acromegaly, which often results in gigantism and abnormal development. From 1940 until his death at the age of 54, Myllyrinne was reported as the world’s tallest living man. His hands were also the largest known hand span in history, measuring 15.7 inches across.
5. Édouard Beaupré – 8 ft 3 inches (2 m 51 cm)
Edouard Beaupre was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1881 and grew to an impressive height of 8 ft 3 in. Beaupre had aspirations of becoming a cowboy as a teenager, but he may have changed his mind when he turned 17 and learned he could raise an 800-pound horse. Beaupre joined Barnum and Bailey’s Circus as a strongman and circus freak when he was 21 years old.
Among the feats of the French-Canadian giant were lifting heavy horses and wrestling one of the world’s toughest men, Louis Cyr. During the wrestling match, he barely dared to touch his rival, resulting in Cyr’s victory. Beaupre had to suffer for his art on occasion, and he once broke his leg when lifting a 900-pound weight.
Beaupre suffered from tuberculosis at the end of his life and felt tired and dizzy after his feats of courage. On July 3, 1904, at about 1:00 a.m., he drank a cup of tea and started coughing up blood. He was rushed to the hospital, but he died that night.
Doctors who studied Beaupre after his death discovered that he had a pituitary gland tumor. They also discovered that he had continued to develop until his death at the age of 23.

6. Sultan Kosen – 8 ft 3 inches (2 m 51 cm)
Sultan Kosen, a Turkish part-time farm laborer, is the world’s tallest living man at 8 ft 3. Kosen’s disease, like many others on this list, is caused by a pituitary gland tumor that has been related to acromegaly. And, like Koehler, Kosen’s growth rate was average until the age of ten, when he suddenly shot up to over six feet.
Owing to his towering stature and need for crutches, the gigantic Turk could not complete his schooling. An effort to remove Kosen’s tumor in 2008 was thought to be promising, but it ultimately failed to stop his rapid growth rate.
7. Bernard Coyne – 8 ft 2 inches (2 m 49 cm)
Bernard A. Coyne was born on July 27, 1897, in Anthon, Iowa. He had eunuchoid infantile gigantism, which is an exceedingly rare disorder known as daddy-longlegs syndrome.
Coyne’s precise height at the time of his death is unknown. According to his WWI identification card, he was already 8-ft tall in 1918 when he was 21 years old. Coyne was 8 ft 2 in tall when he died in 1921, at the age of 23, though some accounts say he may have been as tall as 8 ft 4 in.
In either case, Coyne is one of only a few people in documented medical history who stands taller than 8 feet. However, his life was sadly cut short in his early twenties. The official cause of death for Coyne was liver hardening and glandular fever. He was laid to rest in a coffin made especially for him in his hometown.
8. Vikas Uppal – 8 ft 3 inches (2 m 51 cm)
It isn’t much known about Indian giant Vikas Uppal’s brief existence, and his tallest-man title is contentious. He was born in the Haryana district of Rohtak in 1986, but he was never officially measured by Guinness World Records.
Uppal was 8ft 3in and still rising when he was measured in his late teens, according to the Indian newspaper The Tribune. Rediff.com. An Indian news and entertainment website also claimed to have measured Uppal in 2005. It claimed that he was 8ft 10in tall – making him the second tallest person in human history. Other sources say he was 8ft 9in tall, but his official height is 8ft 3. Regardless of the controversy, Uppal died on the operating table on June 30, 2007, when doctors attempted to remove a tumor from his brain.
9. Don Koehler – 8 ft 2 inches (2 m 49 cm)
Don Koehler, a giant from Denton, Montana, grew to an impressive height of 8 ft 2. His development was normal until the age of ten, when he began to grow at an alarming pace. From 1969 until he died in 1981, he was the world’s tallest man.
The inconveniences in Koehler’s daily life included having to bring two double beds together while staying in hotel rooms, having trouble finding a place to live with a high enough ceiling (and no hanging light fixtures), and hitting his head when he had a cold. Koehler’s twin sister was just 5 ft 9 in tall, so the 29-inch height disparity between the twins set a Guinness World Record. Toward the end of his life, Koehler developed kyphosis, a spinal curvature that diminished his height. He died in Chicago at the age of 55 from a heart attack, according to reports. His height had shrunk to 7 ft 10 in by then.
10. Brahim Takioullah – 8 ft 1 inches (2 m 46 cm)
Brahim Takioullah, along with Iranian Morteza Mehrzad, is the world’s second-tallest living human. Takioullah also holds the Guinness World Record for having the “world’s largest feet on a living human” (and the second largest in history), measuring more than 15 inches in length. Takioullah was born in Morocco in 1982, and his massive size is the product of a pituitary tumor.
Takioullah’s tumor has raised the levels of human growth hormone in her system, and the results are visible to everyone. The Moroccan giant’s condition was discovered when he was 18 years old after a school doctor recommended that he get a blood test because of his “unusual” height.
Takioullah’s size creates considerable difficulties in his daily life. He can’t stand up straight in the small flat he shares with his mother, and he has trouble getting around in a car or taxi. To support his weight, he must also wear special shoes made by his orthopaedic podiatrist.
