Bigg Boss is one of the most popular, if not the most popular, reality TV shows in India. Produced by Endemol Shine India, the show is inspired by Dutch-British show Big Brother. The show has been a popular means of entertainment for the masses in India since its inaugural season in 2006. The show’s concept is such that contestants knew as “house members” have to live in a specially constructed house isolated from the rest of the world for nearly 2 months. The house members are generally celebrities from TV, Cinema and sports. However, in some seasons, common people were also a part of the show.
Apart from the controversial contestants and their controversial remarks, the show’s host- Salman Khan. He attracts a huge chunk of the audience towards the show. While Salman Khan has hosted most of the popular reality TV show seasons. Some of the seasons were also hosted by Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, and Farah Khan. The 2009 edition was hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. The huge celebrity presence is one reason behind the show’s massive popularity in and outside India.
Contestants have to form virtual alliances, do well in tasks, and survive vote outs to reach the finale. Apart from this, votes from the audience play a key role in the elimination process. From cleaning the bathroom to mopping the floor and cooking the food, the contestants have to do all the tasks themselves, which makes the show stand out. The show has had 14 different winners in different seasons.
A list of all Bigg Boss winners in different seasons is as follows
Season 1: Rahul Roy:
The first and the inaugural season of Bigg Boss was aired in 2006. Bollywood actor Rahul Roy won it by taking home a shining trophy and the prize money of Rs. 1 crore. However, the show failed to revive Roy’s declining career, and his on-screen appearances remained limited.
Season 2: Ashutosh Kaushik:
Ashutosh Kaushik was the winner of the second season of Bigg Boss in 2008. He came into the Bigg Boss house after winning the popular reality show MTV Roadies. After winning Bigg Boss, Rahul tried his hands in acting. He appeared in TV shows like Comedy Circus. He also appeared in a few movies, such as Zila Ghaziabad and Kismat Love Paisa Dilli.
Season 3: Vindu Dara Singh:
Vindu Dara Singh, the son of famous TV actor Dara Singh, was the winner of the third season of Bigg Boss, aired in 2009. After winning Bigg Boss, Bindu appeared in several Bollywood movies, including Housefull and Son of Sardar. He also appeared in several TV shows. His name came in a controversy after his alleged involvement in an IPL fixing scandal in 2013.
Season 4: Shweta Tiwari:
The fourth season of Bigg Boss was telecasted in 2010, and it was won by famous TV actress Shweta Singh. Shweta rose to prominence after her popular role in Kasauti Zindagi Ki. She resumed her work as a TV actress after winning the reality show. She also appeared in several movies. Shweta was last seen in the web series Hum Tum and Them.
Season 5: Juhi Parmar:
The 2011 edition of Bigg Boss was won by TV actress Juhi Parmar, who got fame from the popular TV show Kumkum. Juhi left the TV industry permanently after winning the show. She now has her own Youtube channel where she uploads her vlogs.
Season 6: Urvashi Dholakia:
The sixth season of Bigg Boss was won by Indian Television’s favorite villain- Urvashi Dholakia, in 2012. She defeated Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sana Khan, Rajeev Paul, and Sapna Bhavnani to get her hands on the Bigg Boss trophy. Urvashi was last seen on Nach Baliye.
Season 7: Gauhar Khan:
Season 7 was one of the most popular seasons of Bigg Boss, and it was aired in 2013. The season was won by actress Gauhar Khan whose love affair with Kushal Tandon was hugely loved by the audience. Tanisha Mukherjee, Elli Avram, Kamya Panjabi, and Armaan Kohli were also a part of the show. Gauhar recently got married to actor Zaid Darbar.
Season 8: Gautam Gulati:
Gautam Gulati is among one of the most aggressive house members in the history of Bigg Boss. His aggression and never-give-up attitude helped Gautam clinch the Bigg Boss trophy in the year 2015. After winning Bigg Boss, he got a role in the movie Azhar. He was last seen in the web series Operation Cobra.
Season 9: Prince Narula:
For the second time in the history of Bigg Boss, a Roadies winner went on to win the show. History repeated itself in 2016 as Prince Narula, who had entered the house after winning Roadies and SplitsVilla, won his third reality TV show. Prince’s romance with Yuvika Chaudhary caught the limelight. After Bigg Boss, he appeared in the TV show Badho Bahu. Next, he participated in Nach Baliye 9 with Yuvika Chaudhary and won that show as well. He married Yuvika on October 12, 2018. Prince currently is one of the judges of the reality TV show Roadies.
Season 10: Manveer Gurjar:
Season 10 was one of the most entertaining and controversial seasons of Bigg Boss. Telecasted in 2017, a commoner won the show- Manveer Gurjar, a farmer and dairy agriculturist from Noida. After winning Bigg Boss, Manveer continued with his normal life as a common man. The show featured VJ Bani, Lopamudra Raut, Swami OM, Priyanka Jagga, and Manu Punjabi.
Season 11: Shilpa Shinde:
Season 11 was known for the love and hate relationship between Vikas Gupta and Shilpa Shinde, the unpredictable behavior of Arshi, and the glamorous avatar of Hina Khan. After a tough fight from Hina, Shilpa Shinde won the 2018 season convincingly. She joined the Indian National Congress in 2019.
Season 12: Dipika Kakar:
Season 12 was yet another season where commoners were also competing in the show. The show had the likes of Anup Jalota, S Sreesanth, and Karan Singh Grover as contestants. However, it was Sasural Simar Ka fame Dipika who went on to win the show convincingly. She was last seen in TV show Kahan Hum Kahan Tum.
Season 13: Sidharth Shukla:
Season 13 of Bigg Boss was once again full of aggressive contestants. Sidharth defeated Asim, Paras Chhabra, Rashami Desai, and Shehnaz Gill to win the 2019 edition of the show. Sidharth’s friendship with Shenaaz was hugely loved by the audience. Sidharth also won Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7.
Season 14: Rubina Dilaik:
TV actress Rubina Dilaik won the 14th and the latest season of Bigg Boss in 2020. She defeated Aly Goni, Rakhi Sawant, Nikki Tamboli, and Rahul Vaidya to get her hands on the shining Bigg Boss Trophy.
