Superbad is a 2007 American comedy film about a group of adolescent pals directed by Greg Mottola and produced by Judd Apatow. Jonah Hill and Michael Cera play Seth and Evan, two teenagers about to graduate from high school. The males want to party and lose their virginity before graduation, but their plan proves more difficult than they expected. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the manuscript when they were 13 years old, based in part on their experiences in Grade 12 at Point Grey Secondary School in Vancouver in the 1990s; the main characters had the same given names as the two writers.
Rogen was also supposed to play Seth at first, but due to his age and physical size, he was replaced, and Hill took over as Seth, while Rogen played the careless Officer Michaels, opposite Saturday Night Live’s Bill Hader as Officer Slater. The film garnered great reviews upon its initial release, with critics appreciating the dialogue and chemistry between the two stars. On a budget of $17.5-20 million, the picture was a financial triumph, grossing more than $170 million. Since its release, the film has been recognised as one of the best comedies of the 2000s and one of the best high school films of all time.

Plot and Review of Super Bad
Seth and Evan, both seniors in high school, have been best friends since childhood. They are about to enrol at several colleges. Jules invites Seth to a party at her place that night after they are partnered up in home economics class. Seth pledges to buy wine for Jules’ party with money she provides him after their pal Fogell reveals his plans to obtain a false ID. Evan runs into his love interest Becca at the party and promises to get her a special bottle of vodka.

Despite the fact that Fogell’s bogus ID only has one name, “McLovin,” he is successful in purchasing the liquor, but is knocked out at the last minute by a thief. Seth and Evan believe Fogell is being detained when police officers Slater and Michaels arrive. The officers have agreed to provide Fogell a ride to the celebration in actuality.
Seth is hit by a car outside. The driver promises to take Seth and Evan to another party where they can get booze in exchange for not telling the cops. Meanwhile, Slater and Michaels go on a ride-along with Fogell and bond with him. Despite the fact that they are on duty, they begin to drink, misuse their sirens, and fire their pistols at a stop sign.
Seth fills laundry detergent bottles from the storage with alcohol he finds in the fridge and dances with a drunk lady named Jacinda, who stains his leg with menstrual blood, while several cocaine-addled males force Evan to perform “These Eyes” for them at the party. Seth is about to leave when the host confronts him for dancing with his fiancée. After a brawl, Jacinda phones the cops, while Seth and Evan flee.
The party is busted by Slater and Michaels. Seth awakens and flees, dragging an inebriated Evan with him. While Fogell and Nicola are having sex, Slater stops them, leading Nicola to flee. Officer Slater is furious with Fogell for abandoning them, but Michaels points out that they had just interrupted him. They apologise, reconcile, and disclose that they had known all along that Fogell was not 25, as the ID stated; they played along to show cops can have fun, too. To make amends, they stage an arrest outside to make Fogell appear “badass.” They rekindle their relationship, eventually destroying their automobile with a Molotov cocktail while Fogell fires Slater’s revolver at it.
The female characters in the picture are underdeveloped, which is a shame because all three actresses seem up for some comedic exploits of their own. Similarly, the absence of character development makes it more difficult to understand their growing attraction to three young guys who, at most, would be nerds at almost any high school in America. Despite the script’s flaws, Martha MacIsaac, Emma Stone, and Aviva all give strong performances that bode well for future parts.
Among the many teen sex comedy you’ll remember while watching “Superbad,” the Cameron Crowe-directed “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” is possibly the most similar. “Superbad” brings us daily folks making everyday decisions that are frequently funny, occasionally bizarre, innately honest, and surprisingly sweet, much like that iconic picture that made Sean Penn a star.
