In a potential movie or broadcast, Chris Evans’ Captain America is expected to return to the MCU. How will the return of Steve Rogers arise after Avengers: Endgame?
In a potential MCU movie or broadcast, Chris Evans is scheduled to return as Captain America, but just how will this happen after Steve Rogers’ farewell in Avengers: Endgame? It was announced on January 14, 2021, that Evans was in negotiations to return as Captain America. Still, a few more information on how or why they were kept under wraps were published at the time of writing. Although all is hypothetical right now, there are a few different avenues for Captain America’s return to happen.
Evans’ tenure in the MCU came to an end with 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, having begun his MCU trip back in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Steve went back in time, having vanquished Thanos, restoring each Infinity Stone to its proper place to close the timelines created by eliminating them. Instead of merely returning to the present, though, he wanted to linger in the past, eventually having his Peggy Carter dance, then returning as an old Steve Rogers to give his shield to Sam Wilson, aka Falcon.
Whether Steve married Peggy in the main MCU continuum or one of the forked realities developed in Endgame becomes a discussion topic (even between the directors and authors of the film). Still, there are choices for Marvel on the table every way.
On the ending of Avengers, Marvel could build: Endgame and again play old Steve Rogers. Since Cap was certainly not dead in what is now the MCU present (from which the forthcoming Phase 4 films and shows are not that far removed), it wouldn’t be a reach for him to emerge again.
Phase 4 is turning up with the United States to be a battle and for Captain America’s legacy. Government with its own outlook of how the next Captain America will be (and clearly not choosing Falcon, at least immediately). A comeback of those roles in The Falcon and the Winter Solider, or some other Marvel movie/show with those people, will work, as Evans might cameo-like old Steve and provide Sam with direction as he tries to carry on the mantle without entirely overshadowing anything or being a case of restoring the “real” Captain.
Of course, there are limits on what Marvel might do with old Steve, as that would undoubtedly restrict how much Captain America’s viewers would see in the future. Suppose it’s something larger on the surface. In that case, it will make much more sense for Captain to pose as a younger version, with Evans only looking as he does now, rather than having some intense implant work. Phase 4 presents more plot options for this: Black Widow takes place among Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, even with Captain Marvel, which took place in the 1990s, Marvel has indeed made a “prequel” of sorts.
With more recent movies to fill up various points of the narrative, even for Cap’s history rewritten so that he wasn’t stuck in stone, there are a number more choices regarding whether to put a movie or show. There’s a simple precedent. For, e.g., a Howling Commandos film is one common alternative, which may see Evans return.
The alternate timelines are then present and will continue to be discussed in Step 4. The multiverse will have some future movies and series, and Loki will undoubtedly be set in one of the spiraled dimensions of Endgame.

Then, it is likely that Evans’ Captain America, in an alternate universe or timeline, might return similarly, particularly with the Russos’ claim that his life with Peggy takes place in a different one. With much of the MCU’s future apparently dedicated to this storytelling thread, so there will be plenty of space for Evans to cameo or maybe make a broader presence in the center of the multiverse elsewhere. This could be like the same Captain America that went back in time, except a whole different iteration might also be added – for example, the HYDRA version of Captain from Marvel Comics might be brought into action – and now they can go in just about any way.
Another alternative is that Captain America can come back by creating on Avengers: Endgame’s finale, and indeed its time travel, which is having him return back along with Kang the Conqueror. Kang is believed to be the villain of The Avengers 5 (after emerging for the first time in Ant-Man 3). He would not only need the full strength of the MCU to combat him as a time-traveling bad guy and a significant threat. Still, he may also battle heroes at various stages. That means that while in the presence of the MCU, he could combat some heroes, he might go back to his father, meeting Captain America at another stage, much like a flip of the time heist of Endgame.
There are more Speculations of what can happen, what will happen while he will place the stones back to their original timeline, and his conquest to make things every day. Most importantly, the face-off of Red Skull and Captain America on Vormir. This is one iconic face-off every marvel fan wants to notice, and is it possible that Natasha Romanoff comes back with the return of Soul Stone?
Many things are yet unanswered in the whole franchise, and these speculations are the reasons we people come up with such ideas.
