Keanu Reeves isn’t through with John Wick yet. Reeves returns as the uber-assassin in John Wick: Chapter 4 or John Wick 4 after battling his way through New York City and Casablanca in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Lionsgate made the formal announcement a week after John Wick 3 was released, piqued fans’ interest in the franchise’s future.
Warning: John Wick 3 spoilers follow.
After Chapter 3, it looked as though a fourth film was unavoidable, and now a sequel is set to be released in 2021.
While no storyline or casting information has been revealed, the finale of Parabellum left several loose ends that will most likely be addressed in the next film starring Reeves and his buddies.
Here’s all you need to know about John Wick 4, as well as some speculations about how things could play out following the events of John Wick 3.
Release Date:
The original John Wick was released on October 24, 2014, and John Wick: Chapter 2 was published on February 10, 2017. John Wick 3 was released on May 17, 2019, while the sequel, tentatively titled John Wick: Chapter 4 or John Wick 4, will be released almost two years later, on May 21, 2021, about two years after the last film. Thus John Wick 4 will have the smallest release gap between John Wick flicks for fans.
Chad Stahelski, the Director, has stated that if another film is made, he will be back in the Director’s chair, or at the very least significantly engaged. Reeves and Stahelski reminisce about his Matrix days.
Many Characters Are Likely to Return:
While some characters perished in Chapter 3, including Zero (Mark Dacascos), many key characters survived. Obviously, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) will return because his name is in the title. Still, many other characters are also likely to return. Characters such as Ian McShane as Winston, Laurence Fishburne as the Bowery King, Lance Reddick as Charon, Asia Kate Dillon as The Adjudicator of the High Table, and Jason Mantzoukas as Tick Tock Man are expected to return in the following film. Anjelica Huston might reprise her role as the Director, while Halle Berry could reprise her role as the enigmatic Sofia.
The Bowery King and John Wick Could Work Together
What Happened in John Wick 3: Chapter 3: The Bowery King (left in the photo above) is wounded by the assassin Zero (Mark Dacascos) and seems to be murdered for his crimes after assisting John Wick in his escape in Chapter 2. However, towards the end of the film, it is shown that the Bowery King is still alive and well—albeit scarred by Zero’s sword blows. The Tick-Tock Man transports a wounded John Wick to the Bowery King, and both proclaim their desire for vengeance against the High Table.
How It Could Play Out in John Wick 4:
With the High Table turning against both Wick and the Bowery King, it looks like war is on the horizon. The Bowery King has an army of homeless-looking murderers scattered around the city. With Wick presumably enraged after being shot by his old partner Winston, a team-up might be in the works. Any Matrix fan will be overjoyed to see more screen time for Reeves and Fishbourne together, and John Wick 4 will most certainly provide enough of it.

The Film Could Reveal More of the High Table’s Inner Mysteries:
The first two John Wick films exposed some of the inner workings of the High Table. This council oversees the world’s contract assassin business. However, the films have kept much of the intricacies of how the council actually operates a secret, giving just enough intrigue to keep fans wanting more. The role of the Adjudicator (Asia Kate Dillon) and how the High Table imposes punishment were revealed in John Wick 3, notably when John cuts off his own finger in front of The Elder (Sad Taghmaoui) to demonstrate his dedication to his duty.
How It Could Play Out in John Wick 4:
With the Bowery King and John Wick possibly at odds with the High Table, expect to see more of how the council operates and some people who sit on it. This may be another excellent opportunity for the series to bring some heavy-hitters in supporting parts, as they have done in the first two films with stars like Halle Berry and Laurence Fishburne.
Will Winston turns out to be a bad guy? (At least for the time being)
What Happened in John Wick: Chapter 3: Winston turns on John to appease the Adjudicator after assisting John Wick in fighting back against the High Table in a chaotic shootout/fight in the Continental hotel. Winston shoots John twice and then watches him fall from the hotel’s roof. Winston might easily have killed John at the end, but instead, he struck him with two non-lethal shots. While the fall from the roof should have killed John, he’s far too tough for that. Winston was able to maintain control of The Continental at the end of John Wick 3. Still, it came at the expense of his relationship with John—at least for the time being.
How It Might Play Out in John Wick 4:
Winston is one of the finest characters in the series. He has long been an ally of John Wick, so even if he’s on the “wrong” side to begin John Wick 4, anticipate a possible reunion with John by the conclusion. We might envision a scenario in which John Wick and the Bowery King combat the High Table (and Winston at first) before something significant happens that causes Winston to switch sides again. At the end of the day, Winston wants to maintain control of the Continental, and if he can do so while also helping John in Chapter 4, he’ll most likely choose that path.
Could Halle Berry (And Her Dogs) Make a Comeback for Sofia?
When John Wick 3 seeks out a former acquaintance, Sofia, played by Halle Berry, it is one of the most badass and entertaining portions of the film. Sofia is the owner and manager of her own hotel in Casablanca. She is accompanied by two incredibly badass deadly canines who serve as her bodyguards and sometimes weapons. She assists John in locating the Elder (Sad Taghmaoui), a High Table member and one of the most powerful persons in the world of assassins.
Sofia abandons John in the desert and is presumed to be alive. However, assisting John may put her on the wrong side of the High Table.
Could she return to assist John in John Wick 4? Berry seemed to enjoy working on the film, even after fracturing three ribs during filming, so she could make another cameo.
John Wick 4 change in Cast?
Hiroyuki Sanada, from Mortal Kombat and Westworld, has been added to the already stacked Cast of Keanu Reeves’ action sequel John Wick 4.
In 2014’s John Wick, Keanu Reeves portrayed the cold-blooded yet dog-loving assassin for the first time. The 2017 sequel John Wick: Chapter 2 raised the stakes on the original sleeper’s success. The 2019 sequel John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum raised them even more. Hiroyuki Sanada, from Mortal Kombat, has been cast in John Wick 4.
It is unknown whether Snipes will pick up his sword and join the mayhem anticipated to take place in John Wick 4. However, according to Deadline, Mortal Kombat actor Sanada will be a part of the upcoming John Wick picture. “Having long respected Hiroyuki as both an actor and an active performer, I’m pleased and privileged to welcome him to the John Wick family,” said director Stahelski.
Marko Zaror, a martial arts star, joins Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Scott Adkins, and many more in the Cast of John Wick 4.
Alita: Battle Angel and Machete Kills actor Marko Zaror joins the Cast of John Wick 4. Keanu Reeves reprises his role as the unstoppable assassin in the fourth installment of the John Wick series. In recent weeks, Reeves has been joined by a slew of new cast members who are expected to create John Wick 4, the craziest action-adventure yet.
The amount of performers with martial arts and action experience jumps out in the John Wick 4 cast list. Zaror, a well-known martial arts artist, is the newest action star to join the film’s already strong Cast, according to Deadline. Zaror is said to be playing a villain in the film.
Knowing filmmaker Stahelski’s own action history, it’s a guarantee that he’ll attempt to get the most out of these actors while he has them. That is not to dismiss Sawayama, a fascinating first-time actor, or actors like Skarsgard, Anderson, Fishburne, and Reddick. They all bring a lot of skill to the table. And, of course, Reeves is at the helm as a Baba Yaga himself. Filming on John Wick 4 has already begun, so fans should start seeing glimpses of what Stahelski and his all-star ensemble of action veterans have in store for them shortly.

Has the filming started?
Lionsgate released the first set shot from John Wick 4 as shooting on the highly anticipated sequel starring Keanu Reeves.
Lionsgate has released the first set shot from John Wick 4, as shooting on the highly anticipated sequel starring Keanu Reeves begins. The film will be directed by Chad Stahleski once more. However, the story will be written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch rather than series creator Derek Kolstad. The Keanu Reeves-led action sequel is set to be released in theaters on May 27, 2022.
Following the expansion of its ensemble cast, Lionsgate has revealed that filming on John Wick 4 has begun. To commemorate the event, the studio has released the first photo from the action film set, which shows a talent chair with the film’s logo for the first time. There isn’t much else shown, although the chairback logo modifies the “chapter” layout slightly.
The image may not reveal much about the franchise’s fourth installment plot. Still, it serves as an intriguing tease for fans of the series.
It’s also worth noting that the chair’s emblem lacks the phrase “Chapter,” with the number four sitting alone between the character’s first and last name. With just so much room on a talent chair, one might argue that it’s a basic logistical design. Still, it represents an intriguing perspective shift for the brand. As production on John Wick 4 gets begun, expect more revelations in the coming future.
