Netflix, a US-based streaming service, announced that it has begun to strictly enforce its anti-password sharing policies in India as well as in other countries including Kenya, Indonesia, and Croatia. Account access will only be available going forward to subscribers from a single household.

The account on the basic plan will be accessible to users who are part of a “Netflix Household,” or those who share the same internet connection.

On Thursday, Netflix issued a statement announcing the end of password sharing in India. Only members of the same household will be permitted access to a single account under the new policy. This action is a component of an international initiative to address the problem of users exchanging passwords with people outside of their immediate family, which was first made public in May. The corporation wants to increase sales after a difficult year-ago time.

The global leader in streaming, Netflix India, has outlined its strategy to stop password sharing in India. The business started sending emails to its clients across the nation. These communications make it quite obvious that Netflix subscriptions are intended to be used alone by a single household. The move by Netflix is unavoidably abrupt and sudden, but not unexpected. There have been rumors circulating for a while that Netflix will soon stop allowing customers to share passwords and implement steps to do so.

Password-sharing limitations were put in place by Netflix back in May 2023 throughout more than 100 nations, including important markets like the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil. Additionally, Netflix gave its paying customers the option to add a person who wasn’t a part of their household, but doing so would incur an additional monthly fee. According to reports, this cost is set at $8 (or 660) in the United States. The Netflix restriction has also been implemented in India as of July 20, 2023.

Netflix’s new password-sharing policy will not impact members who share their account with family members or roommates, whether at home or away. These users will be able to continue sharing the account thanks to features like “Transfer Profile” and “Manage Access and Devices.” For consumers who share a Netflix account with people outside their family, however, major changes will be made.

What Steps Do Netflix Users Need to Take?

Users must first enter the security and privacy settings of their Netflix account to examine the list of logged-in accounts. They should then select the manage access and devices’ option. They have the choice to transfer their profile if someone from outside their family uses the account to ensure correct and secure usage. What Steps Do Netflix Users Need to Take?
