Name
Both “Green” and “Greene” are pronounced the same way, and the word is heard much more often in-universe than it is printed.
Although several websites spell Rachel’s surname “Green” after the color, it can only be pronounced “Greene” in a reliable sense. A “reliable,” “in-universe” sense is one in which the characters must know how to pronounce a name and write or leave it one way or the other.
Background
Early Life
Rachel Karen Greene was born to rich parents, Leonard and Sandra Greene, who provided her and her two sisters, Jill and Amy, with a very spoiled upbringing. Resulting in their inability to be financially separate from their parents at first. Rachel was born with a large nose, but she later had a nose job. She first met Monica Geller when they were just six years old. They soon became best friends and remained so for the rest of their lives, and their relationship continued when they attended the same high school.
Rachel Green also quickly met Monica’s older brother, Ross. He developed a crush on her that he wanted to keep to himself, even though Rachel later revealed she was aware of his crush. Ross expected her to ignore him, and she did, as seen in the Pilot when Rachel mistook her for ‘Monica’s geeky older brother.’
She was also involved with Chip, a famous fellow high school student who came late to accompany her to the high school prom. When it seemed that Chip would never come, Ross wanted to ask her out on his own, with the encouragement of his friends, Jack and Judy. Later, he blew his opportunity when Chip came before he could question her.
When Chip ditched Rachel at the prom to make out with another girl named Amy Welsh, leaving Rachel humiliated and lonely without a date, she quickly discovered how unpleasant, reckless, and unfaithful he was at his heart.
Rachel Green was a bully to Will Colbert, an overweight undergraduate. She was a famous and meant girl in high school. Ross handled the fact that she never appeared to notice his love for her childishly. I Hate Rachel Greene Club was created by Ross, Will, and a foreign student.
They shared a lie about her, claiming that she “had both male and female genitalia” and that “her parents flipped a coin and wanted to adopt her as a girl,” which was heard by everyone in the high school. Chandler had heard a rumor about a “hermaphrodite cheerleader from Long Island” in high school. Still, he had no idea it was Rachel.
Rachel Green appears at Monica’s house around Thanksgiving in 1987, depressed, and tells Monica that Chip broke up with her for Nancy Branson. She tells Monica that she will never go out with Chip again, no matter what. Rachel then states that she is done with high school boys in general and that she will begin dating guys.
Then, Rachel tells Monica that Chip has dumped Nancy and needs to come over to her house tonight.
Rachel changed her college major again on Thanksgiving 1988 because there was no parking outside the psychology campus. Rachel Green had her nose reshaped. Later in the kitchen, Rachel shows Monica’ How to look Attractive,’ so Monica can retaliate against Chandler for calling her overweight the year before.
Rachel Green goes out with her parents to celebrate her engagement one year before the events of Friends Pilot. On the other hand, Rachel is seen to be very insecure about being with Barry for the rest of her life, and she assures them that she only wants one more fling before she marries.
Chandler, seeing this from behind them, throws a pool ball in an attempt to gain her attention. Rachel, on the other hand, simply ignores him. Monica soon remembers Rachel, and the two embrace and chat for a few moments. When their discussion concludes, Rachel asks Monica if they should have lunch the next time she’s in town, and Monica accepts. Then, while driving home with her daughters, Rachel dreams about Chandler, which adds to her fears about marrying Barry.

Rachel Greene is a lovely young lady with blue eyes and a slender figure. She’s got the most different hairstyles. It is long, wavy, and brown in Season 1. It is shorter and highly layered in Season 2 until it becomes longer in Season 3. Her hair turns blonde in Season 4. Her hair grows ever longer at the end of Season 6. Her hair is cut into a short bob later in Season 7. After the season, her hair is moderately long, reaching her shoulders, and brown with side-swept bangs.
Personality
Rachel’s personality changes slightly during the season. She is initially depicted as a spoiled brat. She may be self-centered at times, but she is always nice and wants to be a good friend. Later in the series, especially after giving birth, she becomes less self-absorbed. Rachel, who used to have people at her beck and call, reveals to Mr. Treeger that she has never cleaned out the garbage. When Treeger shouts at her for clogging the garbage chute, which he had just unclogged with much effort, Rachel returns to the apartment in tears and exaggerates the situation. Monica dismisses the claims, claiming that Rachel still cries.
She is eager to restart her life and become self-sufficient. She was still available to her peers and was well-liked by them. She appreciated Ross’ role and the fact that he had to work a lot at the beginning of their relationship, although Ross never respected hers. She was still upbeat and making the most of a bad case. Rachel Green has a rep for being a “pushover,” as teased in “The One With The Joke.” In “The One With The Cheap Wedding Dress,” for example, a dispute occurs as Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe go to a sale in Brooklyn to buy Monica’s wedding dress. Still, in the season 8 episode, “The One With The Cooking Class,” she doesn’t want him to meet other women because of the baby on the way, but this is not her mistake because she was pregnant and knew it was irrational. Despite these concerns, Rachel Green has matured in later seasons, especially seasons 8 and 10.
Rachel’s style also has a funny, snarky, and cynical aspect from season 4 onwards, mainly aimed at Ross.
Career
Rachel Green’s first job is as a waitress at Central Perk. She’s a lousy bartender, always messing up orders and taking long breaks to sit with her colleagues. Joey and Chandler persuade Rachel to quit her job at the coffee shop to pursue a career in modeling. She is employed as a personal assistant at Fortunata Fashions, where she pours coffee.
With the assistance of Mark Robinson, Rachel Green is employed as an assistant buyer at Bloomingdale’s. Her department is shut after Mark leaves and her manager Joanna dies, and she is demoted to a personal shopper.
She is promoted to the position of women’s wear coordinator at Ralph Lauren. Tag Jones, her assistant, is having an affair with her. As friends and associates are fascinated with Rachel’s job and ask if she knows Ralph Lauren, she still says yes. However, as they ask, “Really?” she says she does not.
Rachel Green is fired from Ralph Lauren after her employer overhears her having a work interview with a Gucci representative. Soon after, she gets a better job with Louis Vuitton after her ex-colleague, Mark, tells her about an opportunity.
Ross, who is upset about Rachel’s imminent relocation to Paris, tricks Rachel’s boss at Ralph Lauren into giving Rachel her job back. Rachel initially refuses this bid and agrees to take Louis Vuitton’s job, despite Ross’s hesitant agreement. However, she drops her plans to leave New York after realizing she is really in love with Ross.

While Rachel’s age, like the birthdays of all the other main characters, is viewed inconsistently by the show’s creators, the best guess is that she was born on May 5, 1970. Rachel’s birthday was May 2, as the episode aired on that date in “One Of The Two Parties.”
